Ukrainian railways in 2013 reduced transportation of containers to all destinations (import, export, transit, internal transportation) by 12% compared to 2012, to 80,481 TEU.
State Railways Administration of Ukraine Ukrzaliznytsia in 2013 seen a record high number of cases of interference in the work of rail transport over the past five years – 260 cases, which is 35% more than in 2012.
The State Administration of Ukraine (Ukrzaliznytsia) over the past 24 hours employed 13,000 railway workers in clearing snow from track. Snow and snowstorms were seen on the territories of Donetsk, Pivdenna, Pivdenno-Zakhidna, Lviv and Odesa railways over the past 24 hours. Rain on the territory of Prydniprovska railway has switched to snow.
The railways of Ukraine handled 24.6 million tonnes of freight from January 1-28, which was 3.1% up year-over-year. Coal loads on trains rose by 12.7%, to 7.2 million tonnes, those of grain were up by 25.5%, to 2.3 million tonnes, metal by 7%, to 2.4 million tonnes, cement by 18.6%, to 170,600 tonnes, and timber by 21.6%, to 323,000 tonnes.
The State Railway Administration of Ukraine (Ukrzaliznytsia) from January 1 to January 26, 2014 loaded 22.9 million tonnes of cargo or 357,208 wagons, which is 2.8% up year-over-year.
