JSC “Ukrainian railways” plans to receive another batch of locomotives from General Electric in 2020, – Yevgen Kravtsov

JSC “Ukrainian railways” has completed the first stage of negotiations with General Electric on the procurement of the next batch of locomotives. The company expects to receive new GE locomotives in 2020.  It was particularly pointed out in the interview of Yevgen Kravtsov — Chairman of the Management Board of JSC “Ukrainian railways” for the UNIAN Information Agency.

“General Electric has overloaded manufacturing and we need to keep up with their schedule. Currently we are discussing the delivery of 20-40 locomotives”, — Yevgen Kravtsov noted.

The company's Head also shared plans on upgrading the electric locomotives fleet. According to him, JSC “Ukrainian railways” has settled on this technical necessity and there are ongoing communications with all manufacturers: “The process is quite complicated, because we talk about investments for the next forty years. Such is the operating cycle of electric locomotives. Therefore, it is important not just to buy some kind of vehicles. The maintenance in the coming decades also has an impact on price. Financing is no less important. We expect to receive the financial support from the countries where manufacturing facilities of the key electric locomotives vendors are located. It is quite a common practice. Alstom and CRRC are the most active now in this respect”.

In 2018, JSC “Ukrainian railways” signed Memoranda of Cooperation with Alstom and CRRC on the construction of electric locomotives for JSC “Ukrainian railways”.
